Gionee M2 Android 4.4 KitKat Update Adds Support for 3 Indian Languages
Gionee has announced the availability of the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its M2 smartphone. Notably, the handset was launched in February running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box. The company has detailed the manual installation process for Gionee M2 users.
The smartphone maker has also mentioned some of the features that the Gionee M2users will be receiving after the update. The new Android 4.4 KitKat update adds support for Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi languages; TouchPal input method for more efficient typing, and 2 games - Hitout Heroes and Boyaa TexasPoker. The Android 4.4 KitKat update also brings improvements to the Amigo UI, Game Zone UI and Gionee Xender UI, whilst bringing updated versions of UC Browser, NQ Mobile Security, KingSoft Office, WeChat, Saavn, and Google Maps. The update also removes the 'V9' search feature from the device.
Gionee has also mentioned that M2's theme and wallpaper will return to default after the Android 4.4 KitKat update but the handset data will not be lost. However, a backup is recommended.
For the manual update, users would have to install the Android Driver and the SP Flash Tool as advised by the firm. There are different firmwares for 4GB and 8GB models. The detailed steps can be followed from here.
The Gionee M2 features a 5-inch display with a FWVGA (480x854 pixels) resolution. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor and a Mali 400MP GPU, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front shooter. The Gionee M2 has a 4GB of inbuilt storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). The M2 measures 144x72x10.5mm, and it packs a massive 4200mAh battery.
